This year is the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea when Christians came together against a backdrop of controversy and created a statement of faith to summarise their beliefs about Jesus Christ. 
It was expanded by the Constantinople council several decades later and has been affirmed by followers of Jesus ever since.
